Saggy Skin

Non-surgical lifting and tightening treatments that restore skin architecture and redefine facial contours — without the downtime of surgery.

About This Concern

Skin laxity — the loss of skin firmness and structural integrity — is a natural consequence of aging, volume loss, and cumulative sun damage. As collagen and elastin production diminishes and underlying support structures weaken, the skin begins to descend under gravity, producing jowling, neck laxity, drooping brow tails, and loss of jawline definition. At FusionMed, we offer a range of non-surgical interventions that address skin laxity at different tissue levels — from the fibrous septae to the dermis — allowing us to achieve meaningful lifting and tightening without the permanence or downtime of surgery.

Understanding the Cause

Common Causes

  • Age-related collagen and elastin degradation — collagen production peaks in the mid-20s and declines by approximately 1% per year thereafter

  • Loss of underlying facial fat and bone support, which reduces the scaffold that keeps skin taut and elevated

  • Chronic ultraviolet exposure (photoaging), which directly breaks down collagen and elastin fibers in the dermis

  • Gravity, which acts continuously on facial and body soft tissue, causing progressive descent over decades

  • Rapid weight loss, which can deplete subcutaneous fat faster than the overlying skin can contract

  • Genetic predisposition — skin elasticity and collagen density are partly determined by hereditary factors

  • Smoking and chronic oxidative stress, which accelerate collagen breakdown and skin aging

Common Questions

FAQs

Can non-surgical treatments replace a facelift?

For mild to moderate laxity, non-surgical treatments can produce significant and satisfying improvement. However, they cannot replicate the degree of correction achievable through surgery in cases of significant tissue descent. The right approach depends on your degree of laxity, your goals, and your tolerance for recovery. Our physician will discuss both options honestly at consultation.

How long does it take to see results from skin tightening?

Thread lifts produce visible immediate lifting. RF-based treatments (Thermage, Morpheus8) show initial improvement within weeks, with full collagen remodeling results developing over 3–6 months. PRP and biostimulator-based approaches take longer but produce quality tissue improvement that complements mechanical lifting.

Can skin tightening treatments be combined?

Yes — and they frequently are. A common combination protocol involves Morpheus8 or RF microneedling to remodel tissue, followed by biostimulators (Sculptra) to restore volume, and threads for structural lifting. This layered approach delivers comprehensive results across tissue planes.

At what age is skin tightening treatment appropriate?

Non-surgical skin tightening can be performed from the late 20s onward as a preventive measure. It is most commonly sought in the 35–65 age range for correction of established laxity. There is no upper age limit, though the degree of improvement relative to advanced laxity should be discussed realistically at consultation.
