IPL Laser Toronto
Intense Pulsed Light therapy that targets pigmentation, vascular irregularities, and sun damage — restoring a clear, even complexion across the face and body.
Book ConsultationOverview
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology delivers precisely calibrated broad-spectrum light pulses that are selectively absorbed by melanin (pigment) and oxyhemoglobin (blood vessels). This targeted energy breaks down sunspots, age spots, freckles, and vascular lesions while stimulating collagen production in the dermis. At FusionMed, IPL is performed using medical-grade devices with adjustable parameters, allowing our clinicians to customize each session to your skin tone, concern, and desired outcome.

Ideal Candidate
Who It's For
IPL is most effective for individuals with Fitzpatrick skin types I–IV who have sun-induced pigmentation, vascular irregularities, rosacea, or general skin dullness. It is not appropriate for very dark skin tones or active tans due to the risk of unwanted pigmentation changes. Ideal candidates have realistic expectations and are committed to consistent sun protection before and after treatment. Pregnancy, active skin infections, and certain medications may contraindicate treatment.

The Process
How It Works
01
Skin Assessment & Calibration
Your clinician performs a detailed skin analysis and photographs the treatment area. IPL parameters — including wavelength filters, fluence, and pulse duration — are calibrated to your skin type and specific concern.
02
Light Pulse Delivery
A cool gel is applied to the treatment area. The IPL handpiece delivers short, controlled pulses of light. You will feel a sensation similar to a rubber band snap. Sessions last 20–40 minutes depending on the area.
03
Skin Clearance & Results
Pigmented lesions darken and rise to the surface over 1–2 weeks before naturally flaking off. Vascular lesions fade progressively. Most patients see significant improvement after 3–5 sessions, spaced 3–4 weeks apart.

Common Questions
FAQs
How many IPL sessions will I need?
A typical course consists of 3–5 sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart. The exact number depends on the severity of pigmentation or vascular concerns. Annual maintenance sessions are recommended to manage ongoing sun exposure and maintain results.
What does the skin look like after IPL?
Immediately post-treatment, the skin may appear flushed. Pigmented spots will temporarily darken and may look 'peppery' for up to two weeks before naturally exfoliating. Vascular lesions may appear darker or bruised briefly before fading. Proper sun protection during this period is essential.
Can IPL be combined with other treatments?
Yes. IPL complements treatments such as microneedling, medical-grade chemical peels, and medical facials. Your clinician will advise on sequencing and appropriate timing between treatments.
Is sun exposure a concern before or after IPL?
Sun protection is critical both before and after IPL. Arrive to treatment without a tan, and avoid direct sun exposure for at least 2 weeks post-treatment. Daily SPF 50+ is mandatory throughout your treatment course to prevent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
